With the exhibition "Who is Amanita?", artist Kaja Čevnik will present herself at Jalla Jalla.

The stage name Amanita (Latin for ‘fly agaric’) perfectly describes Kaja’s long-standing fascination with mushrooms and nature, which, together with psychedelic motifs, are the central thread of her work.

After years of working in the children’s app industry as an illustrator, designer and 2D animator, she reached a turning point and, when artificial intelligence began to increasingly interfere with the processes, she drew the line. She resigned and devoted herself exclusively to an independent path based on genuine art created by the human hand and imagination.

Leaving the industry opened up new questions. She has always had a love for cartoons and cartoonish aesthetics, but years of drawing soft, oval and forcedly “cute” shapes for the youngest have left their mark – and slowly started to get on her nerves.

So where is the line between that industrial childishness and true visual expression?
Does she want to get rid of this influence completely or just transform it according to her own rules?

The exhibition “WHO IS AMANITA?” is a visual reflection on this search. The exhibited works reflect fluctuations, a split between different techniques, unpredictable color palettes and a departure from typical motifs. It is an honest insight into the process of an artist who, after leaving the framework of the industry, redefines her own artistic language.
