Student exchange between Slovenia and Slovakia as part of the 12th Reciklart Festival

As part of the Reciklart festival – an international art festival of recycling and DIY culture, we are hosting an international art colony dedicated to art students from universities in Slovenia and Slovakia.

Starting on July 31st, under the guidance of mentors from Slovenia and Slovakia, we will be working on this year’s festival theme “Food abundance and scarcity“. Each participant, individually or preferably as part of a group will produce an art piece that will be exhibited at art colony group exhibitions, first in Alkatraz Gallery, Ljubljana (SI) as part of the Reciklart festival and later again in spring of 2027 in Košice (SK), where the second part of youth exchange will take place.

The goal of the colony is to connect visual art students across borders through collaboration and socializing. 

Participation

• All art students from universities in Slovenia and Slovakia are eligible to apply.
• We will select 8 students from Slovenia and 8 from Slovakia.
• By applying, students agree to participate in both events (both in Ljubljana and Košice)
• Upfront preparations are not required.
• Conversational level of English is required.
• Preference will be given to students ready to work in groups

Program

30.7 – 11.8.2026 – Slovenia

• July 30, 2026. Arrival of students to Ljubljana (SI)
• 31.7 – 5.8.2026 Art colony.
  For six days, the Reciklart art colony will take place at the Square Without Historical Memory (the platform in front of the Alkatraz Gallery), Akc Metelkova mesto, Ljubljana.
• 6.8.2026 Exhibition setup.
  A joint exhibition will be set up at the Alkatraz Gallery. The exhibition will be open for viewing for three weeks.
• 7.8 – 10.8.2026. Reciklart Festival, Ljubljana (SI)
  On the first day of the festival, students will attend colony exhibition opening and then later, on the last day of the festival with mentors help, students will provide guided tour of exhibition.
• August 11, 2026. Departure of students from Slovakia.

Spring 2027 – Slovakia

• 7 days in spring of 2027. Joint exhibition and student workshops in Košice (SK).
  For students participants in the colony, we will provide transportation, accommodation, and lunch for five days in Košice where we will open our exhibition and organize art workshops that will be led by participating students and under the guidance of art colony mentors.
